P2 may follow a familiar plot about someone being taken against their will, however, the film’s exceptional central character, its festive atmosphere, and intelligent storytelling choices combine to create an enjoyable and skillfully executed thriller. While it's a fairly conventional kidnapping story, P2 benefits from a resourceful female protagonist and unexpectedly good acting given that it’s a smaller-scale horror movie, resulting in a worthwhile suspenseful experience for those who like the genre, particularly around Christmas time. Rachel Nichols gives a believable performance, portraying both fear and determination with sincerity and bringing a sense of authenticity to her role; the way her character evolves from being frightened to demonstrating strength and purpose is a significant positive aspect of the film. Wes Bentley’s portrayal of the antagonist is unsettling, disturbing, and difficult to anticipate, leaving viewers wondering if he intends to pursue a romantic connection or something more violent with his captive. P2 isn't destined for awards recognition, but it provides entertainment for anyone seeking an alternative Christmas movie option.
