It’s hard to say this remake is enjoyable. It isn’t a bad film in itself; however, when you choose to redo a movie that was already very good, it feels like you ought to bring something new to the table beyond simply creating an American adaptation. The characters here lack the spark of their earlier counterparts—they come across as duller, more commonplace, and less captivating. While I’m sure it will satisfy some viewers, those familiar with the original are unlikely to find much enjoyment in this version. The actors chosen for the main roles do a commendable job, and Timothy is naturally wonderful. Still, I have reservations about certain members of the supporting cast.
