I recently watched this movie again in 2026, and I still enjoy it quite a bit. The plot is straightforward: the animals need to gather a lot of food so a bear doesn't harm them—or at least, one of them. Throughout the story, there are elements of trust, betrayal, and most importantly, a sense of "found family," which I find really charming. The characters are enjoyable and endearing. RJ and Vern remind me somewhat of Woody and Buzz from *Toy Story*, but with some personality traits rearranged. They’re both lovable in their own ways, though they each have flaws to work through, particularly RJ. 😁 Stella is a strong, admirable woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind! Hammy is completely wild; his boundless energy is entertaining and doesn't bother me, especially when combined with his genuine emotional depth. Ozzie and Heather, the opossums, form a sweet little "family within the family," and I appreciate Heather’s attitude toward her father—something like, “you’re embarrassing...but I love you.” Plus, she’s just really nice and cute! ❤️ Lou and Penny don't have much screen time, but they still make a good impression, and their kids are fun to watch. I think the movie shares many themes and emotions with *Toy Story*. However, it doesn't quite reach that level of quality. Perhaps it would have benefited from being thirty more minutes long to allow for better development of each character. More than anything, I really wish they’d made a sequel! And I still haven't given up hope for one. I generally like movies and games about clever animals navigating a human world and interacting with human technology, and this movie fits that bill nicely. Visually, it still looks pretty good. The fur is well-done, the humans aren’t particularly attractive, but they are much better than in *Toy Story* (1). So, I think you should definitely watch this if you like older DreamWorks movies, especially if you want to see some cute animals. I just want to hug Heather and listen to punkrock with her! ❤️
