While I can’t claim to have seen every zombie film out there, this one feels like a distinctive take on the genre. It’s true that most movies about surviving a zombie apocalypse are filled with conflict—that's just inherent in the premise. However, the focus here, watching a family navigate both the fallout of an apocalyptic event and the strain on their relationship while being essentially stuck together, struck me as fresh. I suppose similar themes have been touched upon in extended series like *The Walking Dead*, but zombie movies often prioritize action over deeper emotional exploration. Personally, *The Walking Dead* eventually leaned too heavily into soap opera tropes for my taste; I wasn't able to finish it. *Outside* delivers a complete story within the timeframe of a movie, avoiding the significant time commitment required by a series. The father character struggles with his anger and seems unable to grasp that their current crisis overshadows any marital issues. He appears to have been someone prone to losing control even before the apocalypse, and now he’s attempting to exert dominance over his wife, who is resisting. All of the actors performed well, but I found myself most engaged by the dad's character; he really drove the narrative forward, and the actor portraying him did a remarkable job. I would suggest seeing this film—I believe it strikes a good equilibrium between suspenseful action and dramatic elements.
