The film unfolds in 1950s France, mirroring the growing movement for Algerian independence. We meet three brothers: "Saïd" (Jamel Debbouze), who’s managing a nightclub and doing relatively well; his brother "Abdelkader" (Sami Bouajila), involved with an outlawed group employing violent methods to liberate Algeria; and "Messaoud" (Roschdy Zem), a former soldier whom Abdelkader is trying to enlist, along with Saïd. While Saïd initially resists getting involved, circumstances change when the police begin targeting his family and he’s forced to close his nightclub, leaving him facing difficult choices. The narrative seems to echo the saying that one person's terrorist can be another's freedom fighter, posing a question for viewers: how far would someone go in pursuit of liberation? These brothers left Algeria hoping to escape what they believed was harsh treatment under colonial rule, but now their actions in France are creating a similar atmosphere of fear and intimidation. The film raises questions about whether violence is ever justified and the true purpose of law enforcement—protection or control—but these points don’t feel fully explored. The performances aren't strong, the characters seem underdeveloped, and the script struggles to make us connect with these men. It had potential to offer a fresh perspective on depictions of revolution and justice but ultimately relies too heavily on the audience’s existing understanding of historical events to draw its own conclusions. Overall, it was disappointing.
