To initiate conflict, Otomo instructs one of his associates to arrange a situation where a Murase lieutenant is swindled out of 1 million yen. During this staged event, the lieutenant realizes Otomo's affiliation with Ikemoto and pleads to avoid receiving the payment, but Otomo’s people insist. This incident leads to an immediate phone call from Murase to Otomo, who accepts the money along with a finger and apology from Kimura, Murase's second-in-command. The Ikemotos then demand a finger as retribution for the insult. Predictably, this action resulted in considerable wounded pride, compounded by errors made by subordinates, which triggered a series of escalating retaliatory actions. Alliances were unstable, with Ikemoto aiming to maintain his share of the drug profits despite Mr. Chairman’s disapproval. Otomo attempts to balance his standing with Mr. Chairman while also preserving his bond with Murase, but these efforts are complicated by Mr. Chairman's insistence on further reprisals.
