The film had potential that ultimately wasn't fully realized. The initial concept is strong, the atmosphere feels exactly right, and the costumes and makeup create a genuinely unsettling effect; the characters are also quite good. Yet, this feeling of dread dissipates during an excessively long final section of the story, which is disappointing because it’s visually impressive and manages to generate some genuine suspense beforehand. I can't rate it lower than three stars, but that’s largely due to my fondness for this type of material, as I spent a lot of time playing Wolfenstein and Doom when I was younger. Eventually, someone will get it exactly right and deliver the kind of dark war experience that fans have been waiting for.
