This film feels incredibly close to my favorite Thai romantic comedy for teenagers, 'A Little Thing Called Love'. Some moments even feel strikingly similar, including the main characters and a complicated love situation involving four people. It's fair to say this is essentially the Taiwanese version of that movie. I felt like I was re-experiencing a familiar story in another language, but I remained captivated because it’s a beautiful narrative I could watch repeatedly without losing interest. It’s important to remember that while similar, it isn’t the same film; rather, it's a movie with a comparable theme or perhaps heavily inspired by 'A Little Thing Called Love'. This one has its own unique story and character development. The third act felt somewhat drawn out, but a surprising twist early on shifted the narrative in an unexpected direction. Except for the final conclusion (meaning the ending in real time, not the flashback), which seemed quite conventional. I noticed parallels with my own life and that Thai movie I mentioned, since both are based on true stories of first love. It's very possible you’ll find a bit of yourself reflected in this one too. The story follows an ordinary girl whose school days are recalled after she discovers her successful adult life is perceived differently by others from her past. This takes place in the early 90s, and like many girls in school, her crush on the most handsome boy on campus changes the course of her romantic journey after receiving a prank letter that requires her to pass it along to others. > "When we say it's okay, it means it's not okay. > If we say I am fat, that means we hope you can tell us you're not fat at all." It’s clearly a movie geared towards teenage girls, told from their perspective. However, as someone who enjoys movies of all kinds, I don’t typically have issues with films like this and openly appreciate them. Ultimately, I watch movies to experience different things, not to limit myself by age or expectation. This film simply brought back memories of my own school days, and it's likely to do the same for you. School culture differs significantly between Europe/North America and other parts of the world, especially in Asia. But if you’re from South, Southeast, or East Asia, you will probably find a familiar feeling within this film, which will help you enjoy it even more. There were moments where it lost some believability, those things that just happen in movies—particularly as I mentioned the ending and scenes attempting to elicit laughter. The flashback narration is what makes it worthwhile. The beginning and final five minutes felt rather unremarkable. Every actor delivered a phenomenal performance, creating completely engaging storytelling. What made this movie special wasn’t how predictable it was, even if you've experienced something similar before, but how it charmed me with its quirky atmosphere. It’s a youthful Taiwanese film I enjoyed as much as 'You Are the Apple of My Eye'. It doesn’t feel like it was directed by someone inexperienced. There were plenty of humorous moments, though emotionally, it felt somewhat lacking. Overall, though, it's one of the best coming-of-age movies I’ve seen recently, and it has already developed a devoted following among young people—you can find fan art all over the internet. Don’t dismiss this if you are an adult or male; entertainment should be your priority, and what comes after is simply a natural response from within. Despite its length, the movie maintained a lively pace with memorable music and touching scenes. I generally recommend it to everyone, especially those who enjoy teen romance films. 9/10
