It’s disappointing that Originless didn’t quite manage to find its footing, because there was potential there. The movie seems unsure of itself, shifting between an action-oriented vampire story and something more akin to an art film. There are numerous scenes featuring vampires in shadowy settings, underscored by a slow, classical-style score. This creates an experience that’s hard to get into, and ultimately frustrating for me as a viewer because of its uneven approach. It's remarkable how easily a promising concept can be mishandled. A straightforward strategy would have served it well; instead, the film feels shallow and barely worth watching.
