It’s disappointing that Originless didn’t quite manage to become something worthwhile, because there was potential there. The movie seems unsure of itself, shifting between an action-oriented vampire story and a more artistic presentation. There are shadowy scenes involving vampires, set to slow, classical-style music. A significant portion of this feels like an origin story, which seemed unnecessary considering the film’s name and how it begins, at least to that extent. This leads to a movie that doesn't live up to what it could have been, mainly because of its uneven approach. It continues to surprise me how easily promising concepts can be undermined. A simpler focus would have served this project well; instead, the film feels shallow and only passes as something you might watch if you don’t have anything else available.
