This is a remarkable demonstration of how to create intense suspense and anxiety through rapid, intricate conversations, an incredibly impactful sound design, and a similarly striking musical score composed by Ludwig Göransson. It's hard to put into words just how beautiful Hoyte van Hoytema’s cinematography is. It presents a deeply unsettling story about how one person’s drive and influence over politics altered the course of history. Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt are all outstanding—they absolutely deserve recognition during awards season—and so is every other performer in this exceptional film. The way it's paced, its construction, length, along with a style resembling a documentary and narrative layers, combine to make for a challenging and weighty experience that some viewers may find unsatisfying, dull, or simply exhausting. Ultimately, Christopher Nolan acknowledges that this isn’t made for everyone. Rating: A-
