The connection between Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. really shines in this 1994 romantic comedy, which deals with themes of genuine affection, unexpected occurrences, and what some might call fate. Tomei portrays Faith, who is convinced her ideal partner goes by Damon Bradley—a name she received from a Ouija board and a psychic when she was younger. There’s just one catch: she's supposed to be marrying Dwayne, a foot doctor, in just a few days… until circumstances change. While trying to get a message to Dwayne, Faith overhears a man identify himself as Damon Bradley, which triggers a series of events that take her on an emotional and romantic adventure through Italy, accompanied by her close friend and sister-in-law, Kate. This film holds a special place among my favorite movies for several reasons. The dynamic between Tomei’s Faith and Downey Jr.’s Peter is certainly one of them. I also really appreciate the gorgeous locations—Rome and Positano are beautifully showcased. And Bonnie Hunt's portrayal of Kate adds to the enjoyment as well. It’s an entertaining, feel-good movie with some surprises along the way, featuring strong performances from everyone involved, making it a wonderful choice for watching with friends while sipping on Italian wine.
