It seems the authorities have instituted a new rule: unless you’re officially married, you need to refrain from intimate activity. They've even created a device intended to monitor such behavior, though there’s a loophole—a single twelve-hour window annually when contraceptives are scarce. “Owen,” portrayed by Callum Turner, owns a pizza restaurant and has a girlfriend, so he isn’t actively seeking casual encounters that night. "Allie," played by Monica Barbaro, is dressed up and intends to go out with a friend, resisting the temptation of any available man she might find in the restroom line. However, neither person's evening proceeds as anticipated, leading to repeated, awkward run-ins following a series of strange events that include stealing cars, breaking into buildings—and apparently, bubble wrap can be used for unexpected purposes. The storyline has so many flaws it’s barely worth discussing; instead, it serves primarily as an excuse to appreciate the attractiveness of Turner (mostly) and Barbaro as they circle each other before a predictable ending that's obvious even if you were blindfolded. The situations veer into absurdity and are generally underwhelming, though occasionally prompting reflection on how our instincts can override rational thought when hormones take over, leading us into impulsive actions like disappearing into the woods, hopping on a motorcycle, or going on a drinking spree. I still find it puzzling why British performers are cast and then made to adopt American accents—though Turner manages reasonably well with that, as he does with tossing pizza dough in the air. Together, they deliver something frivolous and easily forgotten, but suitable for viewing on television during the Christmas season.
