It’s undeniably strange. I keep wondering what this movie is trying to say. There's something good in it, I suppose—though I’m not entirely sure where—but the central idea feels off. I won’t explain too much because I don’t want to give anything away, but essentially, it tells the story of a mother who has lost her faith in Christmas. It’s a familiar holiday setup, only with a significant change. It just doesn't resonate with me; it winds up feeling like some kind of coercion, which is pretty shocking! Mary Steenburgen does an okay job as the mother, Ginny, considering how problematic the storyline becomes. Ginny comes across as the antagonist for not particularly clear reasons beyond simply disliking the present time for sensible explanations. The rest of the cast includes Harry Dean Stanton (as Gideon) and Elisabeth Harnois (as Abbie). Stanton is fine. The movie actually develops well initially, before the story takes that turn I mentioned earlier. *'One Magic Christmas'* is really peculiar!
