The story centers on American revolutionaries who raid an immigration facility, freeing numerous detainees. During the operation, their leader, Perfidia (Teyana Taylor), creates a strong connection with the center's commander, Lockjaw (Sean Penn). She doesn't stay free for long, but before her recapture, she and fellow rebel Bob (Leonardo DiCaprio) have a child. Years later, this daughter, now a teenager living with her father, is unaware of her family’s history. Lockjaw hasn’t forgotten their past encounter, and when he discovers their whereabouts, he dispatches forces to seize them. She's taken into custody while he escapes, launching his quest to reassemble old allies and rescue his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti). The film is visually appealing, with a rapid pace and snappy dialogue that occasionally offers clever remarks, evoking comparisons to "The A-Team." Both DiCaprio and Penn appear to be having fun in their roles, but the characters and the underlying plot involving conspiracies feel underdeveloped as the action intensifies toward its thrilling finale. It’s hard not to wonder if it needed to be so lengthy; at times, the narrative feels somewhat disconnected and episodic. However, it tackles relevant contemporary issues concerning immigration, corporate influence, and militarization, though whether that makes it successful will depend on individual viewpoints. While I didn't find it exceptional and believe its popularity has been exaggerated, it remains a reliably diverting experience.
