I frequent a certain movie review website when I'm trying to decide whether or not something is worth watching. It’s not because the reviews are insightful or the ratings are reliable; instead, I find that it often sheds light on *why* productions receive negative feedback more than the scores themselves do. There were numerous unfavorable assessments of *Old*, but they weren't centered around typical criticisms like racism or opposition to diversity. Rather, a significant portion of the disapproval seems directed at the director because audiences apparently expected something akin to *The Sixth Sense*. I found the movie to be acceptable, particularly given that I’m not really into horror films. It isn't exceptional, but it was engaging enough to justify my time. I didn’t notice the large plot issues or contradictions that reviewers pointed out without elaborating on them. The performances didn’t strike me as poor either. After all, how would we appear and sound if reality itself ceased to make sense? If I were experiencing what these characters go through, I hope people would understand my bewildered expression, confused behavior, or blank stares at those around me. That seems like a natural response to me. We’re so accustomed to horror and suspense films that it's easy to forget how we might react if we were actually living in one. Regardless, it's not a fantastic film, but it’s worth checking out if you approach it without preconceived notions.
