My expectations weren’t met with this one. It presents an initially interesting premise from M. Night Shyamalan, but the execution falls short due to some uninspired casting choices and a poorly written script. The narrative follows vacationers who find themselves on a beach where they are not only trapped, but also aging at an accelerated rate... Will they manage to get away? Unfortunately, I didn’t become invested – the characters lack distinctiveness, and while the location is visually appealing, the rest of the film feels sluggish and unengaging. Rufus Sewell delivers a notably weak performance, though he isn't much better than Gael García Bernal, who seemed to be simply going through the motions. The final portion could have salvaged things if it had been handled differently, but any sense of danger or believability that existed previously just disappeared. Shyamalan should now possess enough influence to guarantee his unique and clever stories are given a more polished presentation, particularly considering he wrote the screenplay himself.
