Old presents a fascinating premise that unfortunately doesn’t quite live up to what it could have been because of shortcomings in how many different elements were brought together. M. Night Shyamalan has created another film likely to spark strong reactions, exploring concepts related to time and its effects on individuals. The signature ending reveal not only undermines the central idea but also creates numerous problems with the plot and character development that feel excessive. While the performances are surprisingly weak given some of the writing, and despite good casting choices for the roles depicting characters aging rapidly, the story’s core family storyline is engaging, though it's surrounded by a number of unnecessary and unimportant people. The visuals are precise and detailed but may not appeal to everyone, while the editing feels rough around the edges. I struggle to strongly support Shyamalan’s work on this particular project... Rating: C-
