Quality westerns are scarce at present. This one has quickly become a personal favorite, due to the clever (though certainly imaginative) storyline and the realistic performances from all of the actors involved. It unfolds gradually, leading up to a dramatic conclusion. I’m curious if the writing drew inspiration from Clint Eastwood's *Unforgiven*. The story involves a man raising a family alone while struggling to survive on a small farm, with a history that is slowly uncovered. Even though it takes its time developing, it kept me engaged in much the same way as *Unforgiven* did. I will admit that the action sequences involving guns seem over the top, but that’s practically expected in contemporary westerns. The ending contains unexpected developments; one is strikingly original and captivating when it's shown, while the other echoes Cold War spy movies, where the main characters ultimately find themselves unsure of who to believe. I won't elaborate further to prevent revealing too much. I’m certain I will rewatch this film. It shares that quality with *Unforgiven* as well.
