The film adaptation of Hiroko Reijo’s children's book series, Okko’s Inn, presents a touching story combining sadness, personal development, and connections with spirits, all presented through lovely and appealing animation. Some aspects of the storyline—such as characters acting more self-sufficient than seems believable and portraying younger ages than their situations might suggest—could prompt some thought, but it still conveys important ideas about bouncing back from hardship, offering pardon, and progressing after experiencing a loss. Despite being an animated movie focused on a young protagonist, its serious subjects are probably best understood with adult supervision.
