This entry stands among the very finest in the James Bond collection. Leaving behind the serious and uninspired films of Daniel Craig’s time, _Octopussy_ exemplifies what a James Bond movie should be: **FUN!** The series has always embraced excess, recalling _Sean Connery's James Bond wearing a plastic seagull hat in Goldfinger_, and _Octopussy_ carries on that tradition with Roger Moore. The plot involves 007 pursuing a smuggling operation while simultaneously attempting to prevent a deranged Russian general (played wonderfully by Steven Berkoff) from triggering World War III. Visually striking, the film showcases India beautifully. There’s some impressive stunt work—the final sequence atop an airplane is particularly memorable—along with John Barry's rich musical score, plenty of humor, and considerable suspense; Bond defusing a nuclear weapon inside a circus tent proves to be quite impactful. It’s also surprisingly _violent_, as demonstrated by the scene where Roger Moore’s 007 shoots a young Russian soldier in the head. _Positively shocking!_ I think it's clear that I really enjoy this one. It's a fantastic Bond film.
