This movie doesn’t come close to matching "Ocean's 11" (2001). Despite having many familiar faces back together, the narrative falls short in nearly every aspect that made the original so enjoyable. Apparently, “Benedict” (Andy Garcia), who was previously swindled on a large scale, has managed to locate them all and is demanding repayment, or else he’ll take action! The group finds themselves about $100 million short of what they need, so they come up with another clever robbery to cover the deficit. However, after their usual careful preparation and carrying out the plan, they find that someone has already gotten there first. This happens repeatedly – who is this mastermind? It turns out to be a rather self-assured French man named "Toulour" (Vincent Cassel), who essentially proposes a challenge. The scenario involves stealing a Fabergé egg from Paris. He triumphs, and the team is defeated; if they succeed, he’ll settle “Benedict's” debt. This series of thefts hasn't gone unnoticed by Europol, and soon they have their own agent, "Lahiri" (Catherine Zeta-Jones), investigating as well. My issues with this film are that while the story has some unusual elements, it's poorly handled, and there are simply too many people tangled up in the main plot and its side stories, which eventually becomes tedious. There’s a rather amusing moment featuring Julia Roberts as herself alongside Bruce Willis, but beyond that, this feels like an extended sequel where making money seemed to take priority over the style, character development, and appeal of the first film. As you would anticipate, the production quality is excellent – the movie looks great; however, everything else leaves something to be desired.
