The latest take on the familiar heist story certainly has polish: the writing is crisp, the acting is solid, and the action sequences and visual effects are executed well. However, it didn't really grab me. It was enough to pass the time, I guess, but it’s not something that will stick around for long. Action-driven movies just aren’t my preferred type of entertainment; a bit of humor is needed to truly keep me engaged, and this one barely managed to do so. The plot device of the protagonist trying to win back his former partner felt predictable and led to some clichéd moments, which the screenplay unfortunately succumbed to at times. Tess Ocean often seemed like just another belonging of Terry Benedict’s; he treats her with respect, and she remains loyal to him, but there's a distinct lack of any apparent connection between them. And truthfully, the emotional depth between her and the hero who comes to save her isn’t much better. Therefore, I’ll offer a lukewarm “It’s okay” as a rating, and move on.
