My first thought? Mini-bar. Just released from prison, Danny Ocean immediately starts planning what looks like an almost impossible heist. The scheme involves him and ten other specialists attempting to steal from the main vault at Las Vegas casinos, which holds their earnings. The original *Ocean’s 11* from 1960 is a passable film, more enjoyable for its Vegas setting and the lively cast of Rat Packers than because of any real plot or design. It's quite an achievement that this Steven Soderbergh remake surpasses the earlier version in every way; it shows how much entertainment matters over simply having big stars. Some might argue that Soderbergh’s movie used actors to draw viewers in, but at the time, it was a bit of a reach to place George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon (who are all excellent here) on the same level as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. What's most noticeable about this remake is that everyone seems happy being involved, largely because the director isn’t asking for overly dramatic performances. They’re simply asked to show up, enjoy working together, and create one of the coolest movies ever made. The film exists purely to entertain; it radiates good cheer from every scene. It's a character-driven heist movie with plenty of laughs and daring escapades—even Don Cheadle’s questionable (and unnecessary) Cockney accent somehow manages to elicit smiles rather than frustrate viewers. Some critics claimed the film was too superficial to have any real merit! What exactly were they hoping for? So the criminals are likable; it's a welcome change to see Vegas looking bright and clean, without any dark sides, where the robbers rely on cleverness and style instead of brute force. The soundtrack and musical score are cool elements in their own right, while a big thanks goes to Shaobo Qin for his incredible stunt work—it’s just another nice addition to an already wonderful film. Every member of the cast (too many to name) is fantastic, from Andy Garcia's sophisticated and ruthless boss, Terry Benedict, to Julia Roberts' Tess Ocean (strutting like a goddess). Everything in this movie creates a feel-good experience that, when you consider it all, feels like a film made by people who love movies for, well yes, people who also love movies. 9/10
