It’s a remarkably strong film that came out in 1975, and it clearly had a significant impact. The release date seems hard to believe; the movie has aged incredibly well. I was already aware of when it was made, but if I hadn't been, I would have assumed it was something from around 1990. That alone boosts my rating by half a star – it’s truly impressive in its construction. I don't feel the narrative is flawless, though. It’s all enjoyable, certainly, but for me, it reaches its high point when the shark is creating panic throughout the town; I didn’t find it as engaging once it narrowed down to just those three characters. The performances from Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss are still worth noting, however. Returning to what I mentioned earlier, the special effects for the shark are astonishing. I would have liked to see more of the shark itself, even if we get a greater focus on the great white later in the film. A movie told entirely from the shark’s point of view would have been a perfect 5 stars. And that John Williams score is phenomenal – I think most people familiar with movies recognize that iconic theme, regardless of whether they've seen the film or not. Nearly 47 years after it was released, I finally watched *Jaws*. While I don’t believe the story or characters are exceptional, there’s a great deal to appreciate and commend from a technical standpoint. It is truly something special.
