This was genuinely enjoyable. While it might not entirely reflect the sensibilities of that era, I believe that’s intentional and a sign of how far we’ve come – it steps away to critique nearly everything superficial and frivolous with a silly comedic touch, featuring Carole Lombard and Frederic March. Lombard portrays someone who experiences a flawed medical assessment with conflicting feelings; relieved to avoid an untimely end, she anticipates using her settlement funds for a lavish send-off. March embodies a reporter eager to restore his tarnished image, who believes her narrative (unaware of the reality) is precisely what his audience desires and therefore facilitates her whims – leading them to New York, where she successfully charms high society and becomes quite the attraction. The romantic element with March isn’t as captivating, though it does lead smoothly toward the predictable question regarding the finale... what will occur when her supposed demise proves false?
