This movie seems to be struggling to establish its place within the 1991 cinematic landscape, presenting itself as a peculiar tribute to *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre* (1974), though softened for a PG rating. Demi Moore emerges as a standout performer and handles the film’s oddness with an unexpected composure. Ackroyd embodies that very strangeness, although he's almost unrecognizable due to impressive makeup effects. Ackroyd takes on directing duties while also portraying the rural judge in this forgotten corner of the world, clearly enjoying himself by misleading those who stumble upon it. The individual scenes are creatively designed and the film ultimately provides a peculiar but enjoyable experience, after an initial slow start. A significant drawback is Chevy Chase’s performance; he feels stiff and unengaged – Tom Hanks was unavailable for the role.
