It’s one of those movies that feels perfectly crafted, similar to an excellent pasta meal—everything is spot on—yet you can’t quite shake the feeling that the price tag doesn’t match what you get. The filmmaking itself is superb; Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Sheba Hart is wonderful, and Bill Nighy in a supporting part also fits well. While I generally love Judi Dench’s performances, her character felt somewhat flat this time around. Considering the circumstances, she delivered it with her characteristic skill. The film presents a complicated romantic relationship with believable characters. If you're someone who regularly browses the tabloids at the grocery store checkout, you will likely enjoy the narrative. I rated it a 7 out of my possible score. It’s not going to be earth-shattering, but you also won’t regret having watched it.
