"Not Okay" is undeniably a jarring, contentious film that those engaged with online platforms should experience. It’s an examination of social media's darker aspects—things like sensationalized news stories, manufactured victimhood, and the constant desire for recognition. The movie attempts satire and comedy, but this approach isn’t always successful, and certain intriguing subjects would have benefited from a deeper look and more defined resolutions, particularly when it comes to discussions around accountability. Zoey Deutch does a commendable job portraying the protagonist, who is intentionally unlikeable, even though the ending feels abrupt and leaves questions about what Quinn Shephard was trying to communicate. Despite this, Mia Isaac truly shines. At only 18 years old and with limited prior experience, she displays remarkable ability and provides one of the most affecting performances seen recently. The music selections are fitting for the story being told. Rating: B
