Following his daughter’s disappearance close to the Texas border, an American man journeys into a disreputable area of Mexico seeking her, uncovering various concealed truths along the way. Chloë Grace Moretz plays the young girl, and Paz Vega portrays her mother. “Not Forgotten,” released in 2009, feels like a combination of “The Flock” and “Borderland,” both decent movies from two years prior. It begins promisingly, but the latter portion descends into a tiresome, unpleasant, and absurd sequence of events. I did mention absurd, didn’t I? The discoveries that come to light are genuinely comical. I don't care for Martin Sheen’s “Believers,” but even it is superior to this film. It might be slightly better than the terribly flawed “The Serpent and the Rainbow,” though that isn’t high praise. There’s at least a degree of craftsmanship present in the disturbing events unfolding onscreen. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour, 36 minutes, and filming locations included Santa Fe & Las Vegas in New Mexico, as well as Mexico City and Pachuca—a ninety-minute trip northeast of Mexico City. GRADE: D+
