The technical aspects of Nope are strikingly impressive, though the story's central ideas create some problems with how it unfolds. Jordan Peele makes excellent use of Hoyte van Hoytema’s remarkable cinematography and Michael Abels’ distinctive music to craft a film that feels meant for theaters; however, the sound design is what truly pushes the movie to that level. Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun all give great performances, but Yeun's character is connected to a very thematic storyline – one that’s full of potential – yet has almost no bearing on the main events, resulting in numerous unresolved questions and a split reaction from viewers while also disrupting the movie’s rhythm. The film incorporates humor quite well, and the scenes designed to build suspense and anxiety succeed at what they set out to do. It's a picture that warrants repeated viewings and is certain to spark lots of discussion. Rating: B
