I decided to see this film because Frances McDormand and David Strathairn were in it, and what I discovered was that they are practically the only performers. Numerous roles are played by local residents and people just passing through. The movie unfolds at a deliberate pace. Those unfamiliar with understated, everyday dramas might feel like it’s moving too slowly. It functions as an examination of character, though featuring many individuals. A number of people with their own experiences come into the central figure's orbit; she offers assistance or receives it from them, and then they depart.
