The film Noise takes commonplace sounds from apartment living and turns them into a source of psychological fear, centering on Joo Young’s quest to find her missing sister while dealing with feelings of guilt, past trauma, and an unknown danger. The movie establishes a palpable sense of dread through its sound design and offers observations about inadequate housing situations; however, the hurried conclusion, a puzzling plot development, and superficial character development detract from the overall effect. Even with these shortcomings, it’s still a disturbing experience for those who enjoy horror movies that prioritize mood and address social issues.
