There’s a part of me that thinks I would have enjoyed this more when I was younger. Perhaps then I wouldn’t have realized it’s essentially just one action sequence following another. It is enjoyable enough, but I’ve already seen something very similar with Christina Ricci; she portrayed the assassin role better. The character of Brother does add something positive to the experience. The line “Never bring a machete to a katana fight” stands out as the best in the movie, although I might not remember it because I fast-forwarded through most of the film. It’s primarily just fighting scenes, and while some are quite creative, many feel repetitive—it seems like an exercise in finding new ways to kill people after you've already killed a hundred. The runtime is listed as 1.5 hours, but it took me only about 45 minutes – or maybe closer to 30 – of skipping around to grasp the main points. Younger viewers might find this appealing, but adults may feel frustrated by the disregard for basic physics during the dart and knife fight scene. It’s still gratifying to watch the female characters take charge, though; I remain a Christina Ricci fan when it comes to family-related killing sprees.
