I’d describe this movie as a prime example of "Bruceploitation," and anyone familiar with films using “sploitation” in their genre description should understand that high production values, impressive effects, or even a solid story aren’t likely to be present. These kinds of movies usually lack those qualities, and when they do appear, it's best considered an unexpected treat. From a technical standpoint, the film is flawed; it appears poorly made, the script isn’t strong, and much of the dialogue isn’t good... …but these shortcomings actually contribute to its appeal, resulting in a very old-fashioned yet highly amusing piece that manages to keep you engaged from beginning to end, even if you don't have any personal connection to it. *No Retreat, No Surrender* is definitely one of those films that’s enjoyable precisely because it’s so bad, and the presence of Bruce Lee’s legacy only enhances its entertaining awfulness. It certainly could be improved, and nobody would dispute that, but if it were better, it wouldn't be quite as fun to watch.
