Initially, I had difficulty accepting the possibility that "Etienne" (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart) could be "Rosa’s" (Céleste Brunnquell) father; the actors' ages don't quite match up, and he seemed more like her brother! It turns out she was raised by "Valérie" (Mercedes Dassy), who abandoned her when she was young. This has fostered a close and open connection between Etienne and Rosa. Rosa is seeing "Youssef" (Mohammed Louridi), who comically keeps appearing and disappearing from their house, completely exposed to everyone around—her father, the neighbors, and likely even satellites orbiting Earth. He justifies this behavior by saying he wants to recreate traditional courtship rituals, insists on a relationship without physical intimacy, which results in one of the film's strongest moments involving Etienne and the exasperated Youssef. It gradually becomes apparent that their lives are shifting, that Rosa will soon be independent, and this triggers an unwelcome slide into more conventional family drama, diminishing the overall appeal as it turns somewhat stale and foreseeable. Biscayart delivers a noteworthy performance portraying a father striving to ensure his daughter's happiness while also desiring the same for himself, and Louridi is memorable with sharp lines and his constant presence alongside a notebook that brought a smile to my face. The film loses momentum, but remains an agreeable and well-developed character study. It might even prompt you to inspect your home’s insulation.
