'No Deposit, No Return' goes on for too long without question, but it still managed to please me. It shares an atmosphere with 'Candleshoe', which Disney released about a year later. The stories themselves are different, however I noticed some similarities between them; most notably David Niven’s presence in both, and what I believe was his living room set – though that last detail is just from my memory. Niven delivers a decent performance, although he isn't particularly active compared to the other performers. The two child actors are reliable, with Kim Richards being especially good; she appeared in 'Escape to Witch Mountain' roughly a year prior for Disney audiences. Darren McGavin and Don Knotts make an amusing pair together, while Herschel Bernardi – who bore a strong resemblance to Nick Sandow – also does well. The storyline is pretty absurd, but I still found it diverting enough, largely because of the cast I mentioned earlier. The comedy isn’t laugh-out-loud funny, but it's agreeable. My biggest complaint is really about how long it takes to unfold; the story would have been ideal at 90 minutes instead of 112 – those extra minutes are very apparent and don’t contribute much in the end. Despite all that, I did enjoy myself with this film.
