The initial portion of "Blood Rage" is genuinely enjoyable, though the ending falls short. The story centers on a mother who has raised twin sons, one of whom resides in an institution. She believes she’s found happiness with a new partner, until that son escapes and chaos ensues. This film, created in 1983 but not seen publicly until 1987, initially had the working title “Slasher.” It was subsequently edited into "Nightmare at Shadow Woods," resulting in cuts to the gore and nudity intended to secure a less restrictive rating for international distribution. The uncut version contains considerable well-executed gore—something viewers who enjoy that might appreciate—and nudity which is fairly standard, perhaps slightly more than typical. Lisa Randall delivers an impressive performance as Andrea; regrettably, this appears to have been her sole acting credit. Julie Gordon portrays Karen and functions as the traditional “final girl.” Mark Soper does a commendable job playing the twin brothers, effectively differentiating between them—to the point where I questioned whether two actors were involved. The film’s opening 55 minutes are quite strong for a lower-tier slasher in the vein of "Sleepaway Camp," complemented by its distinctive early 1980s electronic soundtrack. However, the final act loses momentum and becomes noticeably drawn out. The narrative would have benefited from keeping a particular character involved. The movie’s total length is one hour and twenty-two minutes. Filming took place in Jacksonville, specifically at the University of North Florida, while scenes set inside a drive-in theater were filmed in New Jersey. My assessment lands somewhere between a B- and a C+.
