The film’s vampires operate under three specific guidelines: maintaining secrecy about their existence among humans, obtaining consent before feeding, and avoiding Boyle Heights without authorization. The first of these seems logical, the second appears impractical given their dietary needs, and the third suggests they might be better off transforming into zombies since it's as close as they’ll get to having brains themselves. The opening narration states, “Things were much simpler in the old days. We hunted you and you hunted us. In Los Angeles, no one fought harder than a place called Boyle Heights. So, we made a truce to keep the peace between us and you.” I'm curious as to why these vampires prioritize this particular area when they have access to the entire world. It’s hard to grasp the significance given that Los Angeles contains hundreds of neighborhoods, each presenting far less opposition. Why Boyle Heights, with its population numbering fewer than 100,000 (and likely even smaller if you factor in those who would refuse to be drained of blood), rather than Encino, Sherman Oaks, or Reseda? Not to mention the rest of California, or any of the other states, or countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa. It’s possible they simply desire Boyle Heights because it's forbidden, which lends support to my suspicion that their intelligence isn’t particularly high. The narration continues, “We lived in secret and you convinced yourselves that you had never really believed. You forgot to be afraid. You made books and movies about us with most of the details wrong [a category Night Teeth certainly fits into], while we became richer and more powerful than you could ever imagine." This brought another film to mind, *From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money*, where the antagonists attempt a bank robbery. When questioned about why vampires would engage in such an activity, the hero simply shrugged and offered that "vampires need money like everyone else.” A movie exploring how vampires accumulate wealth and power would be far more engaging than *Night Teeth*.
