The sequel, *Next Friday*, fails to live up to expectations, which feels predictable considering Chris Tucker isn’t in it. The original movie succeeded largely due to its two main performers, so removing one—particularly Tucker—was bound to make a follow-up feel lackluster, especially since they didn't manage to find someone who could fill his shoes. Ice Cube is acceptable; he’s the strongest element simply because everyone else isn't great. Mike Epps doesn't impress me, and his character comes across as irritating. Among the new additions, Kym Whitley is about the only one who almost manages to make an impact. Lisa Rodríguez’s portrayal of Karla feels poorly developed, and that goes for the "Jokers" collectively too.
