It’s striking how recently a film like _Nerve_ could have been conceived; it prompts speculation about its relevance just a few years down the line. The social media platforms depicted in the movie already seem dated when considering the time between filming and release—something to consider. Setting that aside, the movie itself was merely adequate. The music felt disruptive rather than enhancing the experience. The core concept feels familiar, even if the execution is somewhat fresh. The film’s point comes across a bit heavy-handedly, though not as much as something like _Tomorrowland_. There are some weaknesses in the storyline. The performances were generally acceptable, although there were moments when they faltered. A lot of the scenes between characters felt predictable and relied on tired tropes, and while the cinematography had some original elements, it was often a distraction. Despite these shortcomings, I found it enjoyable and pleasant enough. I’m glad I saw it in theaters, but that was largely due to a promotional discount. _Final rating:★★½ - It had aspects that resonated with me, but ultimately didn't quite coalesce._
