Chile’s version of a pursuit movie! It secured Chile's submission for the Academy Awards, though it didn’t make the final cut for the Oscars. After I wasn't impressed with his earlier work, Larraín seems to be back, but not completely so. This is essentially a biopic, something like a Chilean adaptation of 'Catch Me If You Can,' but lacking some of the excitement. Those who appreciate this director’s style might find it appealing. However, I found it somewhat dull because the plot progresses at a slow pace. A significant portion felt more like an off-screen voiceover than direct conversations between characters. It was as if someone unwell in bed were recounting a story—a quiet, almost whispered delivery that resembled a lullaby. However, there were moments of quality throughout. There’s a chase dynamic present, but it's not the kind of thrilling experience you might anticipate from films about police pursuing criminals. The narrative isn't particularly profound or detailed; only certain events in Neruda’s life are shown on screen. Many appear trivial, or perhaps presented that way. This gave it a feel of dark comedy. From the perspective of the law enforcement officer, don’t expect anything like the deductive abilities of Sherlock Holmes. The acting was good, and the settings were also well-chosen, aside from those projected background clips during vehicle scenes. Overall, it's an above average film, though it could have been better. 6/10
