The acting is genuinely strong; I’ll admit that much. Max Von Sydow certainly deserved consideration for an Oscar, and Ed Harris remains consistently engaging to watch. However, this is a King adaptation, and perhaps—like many others—my disappointment stems from having read the novel beforehand. Frankly, it's not good. Despite possessing a larger budget than some of his other adaptations, it repeatedly fails to measure up. It might have fared better as a limited television series, but as a film, I suggest avoiding it.
