Following the discovery of what appears to be a murder at an abandoned house by three children in Southern California, their Halloween celebration turns unsettling as hidden truths about the property’s history are revealed. “Natty Knocks” comes from the director of “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers,” and features Danielle Harris—who portrayed Jamie Lloyd in that film—as the mother of two of the young characters. The movie shares a resemblance to "Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween," though with more profanity, primarily spoken by the teenagers, plus an explicit scene early on. I appreciated how the narrative gradually reveals its secrets; Robert Englund appears as a character who provides important information about past events. I’ve seen some complaints regarding certain aspects of the plot, but everything is clarified if you're observant. For example, the question of why the women in the opening sequence die by fire—is it due to witchcraft or something more ordinary? And how did those involved avoid consequences for their actions? Charlotte Fountain-Jardim (as Britt) and Anuschka van Lent (as young Natty), both with brunette and blonde hair respectively, are memorable. The film could have explored their characters further, although they do get some attention, just barely. The ending is adequate but would have benefited from adjustments to make it flow better and be more engaging. Nevertheless, “Natty Knocks” has enough merit to recommend if you’re looking for a contemporary Halloween movie. If the filmmakers had addressed a few problems, I would have rated it higher. The film's length is 1 hour and 34 minutes, and filming took place in several locations around Los Angeles, including Culver City, West Los Angeles, and Pasadena (The Paseo mall), with some additional scenes shot in Las Vegas, Nevada.
