It’s disappointing to say that *National Security* doesn't rise above being a typical Martin Lawrence movie—and that's not necessarily a good thing, since I've found him somewhat entertaining in those kinds of parts over time. This particular film simply fails to click, which is unfortunate because I appreciate Steve Zahn’s work as well. Zahn seems out of place, but Lawrence prevents the whole thing from completely collapsing. There are moments that genuinely elicit a chuckle, even if they depend too much on jokes about race, and it includes some impressive physical effects and stunts. However, I never became invested in it, and it didn't seem like the two main performers had good chemistry together.
