It was unexpected to find that a film centered on an athlete recovering from an injury and returning to his hometown would involve a zombie apocalypse—and yet, I’m pleased it did. Nanticoke manages to combine elements of everyday life with supernatural horror, creating something unusual but effective. The frightening moments are well-executed, the zombies are suitably unpleasant (in a positive sense), and Brad proves to be a likable protagonist, despite his often bewildered appearance. The storyline does become somewhat outlandish with the introduction of a cursed potion, but ultimately it’s an enjoyable experience—ideal for a chilling evening at home.
