My Old Ass proved to be a genuinely entertaining film. A significant part of its appeal comes from the sharp, quick-paced conversations—the entire movie moves at a brisk pace while still maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. It also benefits from the characters’ remarkably authentic presentation; for instance, Elliott's hairstyle is never overly styled. The production avoids that artificial sheen often associated with movies. Perhaps this contributed to the greater sense of believability we experienced compared to other films in the “magical realism” genre. The premise itself is incredibly intriguing—it's hard not to wonder about the mistakes one could sidestep if given the chance. Wouldn’t it be desirable to revisit the past and offer oneself guidance that no one else can provide? However, beyond this initial layer of enjoyment, writer/director Megan Park prompts us to consider how life experience can simultaneously be a blessing and a weight.
