I'm not typically one to lament that films aren't made like they once were, nor do I spend much time with older movies. However, there are a handful of classics I would happily watch repeatedly, and this film definitely falls into that category. *My Man Godfrey* belongs to the screwball comedy style, and it’s possible that these kinds of films really aren't produced anymore, considering many modern comedies rely on crude humor or offensive language—though whether that qualifies as shocking is debatable. Regardless, this movie provided a lot of laughs, had a pleasant story, and included a romantic element. The two main actors carry the film, but the entire Bullock family feels well-chosen for their roles. The only thing that slightly lessened my enjoyment was the Carlo character. The family’s eccentric matriarch is supporting him—perhaps he's a musician? I felt in some instances his portrayal went too far, though it wasn’t a significant issue. There’s a subtle social commentary about wealth and poverty here, but it doesn’t overshadow the story. It’s a wonderful movie.
