The Earp brothers, including Wyatt (Henry Fonda), are moving cattle close to Tombstone when one of them, James, is killed. Wanting answers, Wyatt becomes the town marshal and with his brothers Morgan (Ward Bond) and Virgil (Tim Holt), focuses on the Clanton family headed by Walter Brennan. He develops a connection with Doc Holliday (Victor Mature), who's often unstable and drinks heavily, but the main event remains the famous shootout at the OK Corral. The performances are strong across the board, as everyone contributes to John Ford’s well-written and energetic direction. Thankfully, for my taste, "Clementine" (Cathy Downs) has a minimal role—mostly serving as inspiration for the song. In fact, romantic elements are largely absent from the film. Linda Darnell is memorable as Holliday's companion, “Chihuahua,” who seems to be the only person capable of handling his bad moods; it’s unusual, but believable, to see Brennan playing a villain. This movie demonstrates how much can be accomplished within 95 minutes when quality production and talented actors support a compelling narrative.
