My Blue Heaven is passable. The performances were adequate, though I never bought Steve Martin as someone involved with the Italian Mafia. It wasn’t especially humorous; I chuckled twice, and those instances felt more like reactions of surprise. According to Wikipedia, the storyline draws loosely from the same individual who served as inspiration for Goodfellas, and while it isn't a groundbreaking concept, there’s some promise in its setup as both a fish-out-of-water story and an odd couple dynamic. My Blue Heaven is unremarkable; nothing was truly awful, nothing pulled me out of the movie (aside from Steve Martin’s casting and the decision to use title cards for occasional shifts in viewpoint), and I wasn't puzzled or let down by the progression of events, but I also didn’t feel particularly wowed or deeply engaged. I selected this film randomly, not knowing what I was getting until the name appeared on screen. I was looking forward to seeing Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, and Joan Cusack in a movie together, but their talents weren't utilized well, and they could have easily been replaced by almost anyone else of lesser renown. Again, it’s just okay. I didn’t hate it, but there are many other films that would have made better use of my time.
